Director’s Collection: Paquita, Miroirs, Deverell
Three bold works, one unforgettable evening.
An evening of thrilling variety, breathtaking artistry, and unforgettable movement, Director’s Collection brings together three distinctive ballets that showcase the extraordinary range of Orlando Ballet’s dancers. From classical brilliance to contemporary lyricism and spirited storytelling, this mixed repertoire program offers audiences a vibrant journey through the many voices of ballet.
The program opens with Paquita, a dazzling jewel of the classical repertoire that has stood the test of time. This production features the most compelling excerpts from the full-length ballet, and is a technical and artistic challenge, set to a passionate musical score.
Mark Godden returns to Orlando Ballet following last season’s acclaimed Angels in the Architecture with Miroirs, a work of quiet beauty and poetic precision. Set to the hauntingly beautiful music of Maurice Ravel, the ballet unfolds like a series of living reflections—delicate, symmetrical patterns that suddenly shift into moments of unexpected asymmetry. Evocative and intimate, Miroirs reveals the dancers as moving works of art within a mesmerizing soundscape.
The evening concludes with Deverell, an original ballet by Artistic Director Jorden Morris. Inspired by Morris’s Celtic heritage, this spirited and atmospheric work celebrates the enduring connection between people, landscape, and legend. From the women who labor along rugged shores, to the fierce camaraderie of the men, to the mystical spirits that inhabit earth, sea, and sky, Deverell culminates in a sweeping celebration of Celtic music and dance, highlighted by a luminous pas de deux set to the beloved Welsh folk song The Ash Grove.
Three bold works. One magical performance. Director’s Collection is a celebration of the power, beauty, and boundless storytelling of ballet.
