AGES 9+

The Orlando Ballet School Summer Intensive Programs are for intermediate to advanced students ages 9 and up. Our summer program places a strong emphasis on ballet technique training while incorporating supplementary classes in character, pointe, variations, modern, jazz, men’s, partnering, and nutrition. All programs will have guest faculty throughout the intensives in addition to our wonderful OBS faculty.

Video Auditions

Video auditions will be accepted starting November 1st until April 19, 2024

Video Fee: $40.

To submit a video audition:

Please provide an audition video that is 5-7 minutes in length. The simple and concise combinations outlined below will help us to accurately assess where you are in your training. Be sure to clearly state your name and age at the beginning of the video. 

Please wear the following when recording your audition:

Uniform Options: 

Option 1: black or other solid colored leotard, pink ballet tights, pink ballet slippers and pointe shoes. Hair should be secured in a proper ballet bun.

Option 2: white dance t-shirt, black ballet tights, and black ballet slippers

 

AUDITION EXERCISES

  1. At the barre – camera view from the side or diagonal
  • Grand plié in 2nd and 5th positions
  • Tendu from 5th, en croix two in each direction
  • Développé en avant, à la seconde and arabesque
  • Grand battement en croix
  1. In the center
  • Short waltz
    • Glissade, développé into effacé, glissade, développé into écarté devant (repeat left),
    • balancé right, left, tombé pas de bourrée to 4th, pirouette finishing sous-sous 5th position
  • Petite allegro
    • Glissade, jeté, temps levé, assemblé, 3 brisés, royale
    • Jeté and assemblé with beats

Ladies only

  • Échappés en croix (en face) and add passé/retiré
  • Échappés en croix (effacé) and add passé/retiré

Gentlemen only

  • Four entrechat quatré or four entrechat six
  • Double tour

 

 Video Submission Instructions:

  • Once you have recorded your video, please upload the video file to YouTube (make sure the video is marked as “Public” so we can view your audition).
  • Please submit your video audition link in the space provided on your online registration form.
  • Please note, we do not accept video auditions for direct admittance into our year round Trainee or OBII programs. If you are considered a strong candidate for either of these programs, you will receive an invitation to the OBS Summer Intensive to work with the School Director. During the summer intensive, Trainee/OBII candidates are selected and given offer letters for the 2024-25 season.
  • Please allow 10 business days from the date of your audition submission to receive your results.

Space will be provided during the registration process to add your video link. (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.) Make sure the video is set to public.

One Week Jr. Summer Intensive Information (AGES 9-12)

The new Orlando Ballet School One-Week Jr. Summer Intensive Program is for serious young dancers ages 9-12 years old. Classes will take place over five days from 10:00am-4:00pm. Students will participate in classes focused on ballet technique, conditioning, character, and jazz. All students will work directly with our ABT certified Orlando Ballet School faculty.

SUMMER INTENSIVE HOUSING INFORMATION

Where will housing be located?

Housing is located at Rollins College, which is only 10 minutes away from Harriett’s Orlando Ballet Centre! Rollins College is located at 1000 Holt Ave, Winter Park, FL, 32789

 

What do the dorms look like?

We have been assigned to the following dorms for the entirety of our Summer Intensive Programs:

 

Strong Hall 219/220/221

  • Location: Corner of French Avenue and Holt Avenue
  • Room Types: doubles and singles
  • Building Features: Suite-style bathrooms, elevator, lounge, and kitchen
  • Furnishings: Extra-long twin bed, closet, dresser, desk, desk chair, and window blinds. No bedding/decorations are included.

 

How old do housing students have to be?

Housing is available to all students who decide to attend our 2, 3, and 5-Week Summer Intensive programs!

 

We understand that several of our students attending the Summer Intensive will be 18 years or older. If a student decides to board at Rollins College for the duration of the Summer Intensive, they will be held to all rules and regulations put in place by the OBS staff and appointed RA’s regardless of age.

 

Will housing students be supervised?

Yes, all housing students will be assigned a Resident Assistant. There will be one RA for every ten students. All Resident Assistants will report to a Dorm Supervisor who will be on campus each night the students are in the dorms.

 

Will I be able to request a roommate?

Yes, during registration you will have the ability to request a roommate for the Summer Intensive. Please note that we will do our best to accommodate all requests, but there is no guarantee.

 

Do you have to be vaccinated to live in the dorms?

No, students do not need to be vaccinated in order to live in the dorms or attend our summer intensive program.

 

Are meals included?

Yes, boarding students will receive breakfast and dinner at the dining hall on Rollins campus. A boxed lunch will be provided by the dining hall to take to Orlando Ballet for lunchtime. There will be select days where lunch and dinner will not be provided due to an optional off campus activity. Students will be made aware of days when these meals will not be available, and they will have to make other arrangements.

 

What if I have a food allergy?

If you have a food allergy, you will be able to let us know through your Jackrabbit registration. We will work directly with the dining hall to accommodate any food allergies you may have.

 

Will there be field trips?

Yes, there will be scheduled field trips for Saturday evenings as well as on Sunday’s. Trips range from a trip to Icon Park to visiting Disney World and Universal.

 

Can I bring my car?

Summer Intensive students driving by themselves to Orlando may keep their vehicles on campus during the program. The student’s car keys must be turned into the Dorm Supervisor upon check-in and they will return them to the student upon check-out. Resident Assistants may also have vehicles on campus. RAs are permitted to use their vehicles during the program for OBS Summer Intensive related travel. However, all students who bring a vehicle are not permitted to transport other students in their vehicle for any reason. Parking passes must be arranged in advance and can be purchased through your registration.
