The first ever Orlando Ballet Social (#OBSocial) on Monday, October 3, 5:30-7:30 pm sold out in two hours when the company announced it would throw open the doors of its Loch Haven Park studios (610 N Lake Formosa Drive, Orlando, FL 32803) to invite the public to meet the dancers, and find out more about the company’s forthcoming shows and the work of Orlando Ballet School. The event is free and is the first in a series throughout Orlando Ballet’s 2016 / 2017 season promoting the message that everyone is welcome at the ballet. The #OBSocial events are designed to grow the connections between the company and the diverse local Orlando communities.
Due to overwhelming demand and enthusiasm for the event, the Ballet announced today that a second Orlando Ballet Social has been added on Tuesday, October 18th at 5:30pm-7:30pm at Loch Haven Park Studios. Booking for the FREE event is available online and by phone beginning Tuesday September 27th at 10:00 am. There are only 150 places so early booking is advised to avoid disappointment.
The success of the new Orlando Ballet Socials mark a positive step forward as the company and expanded Board look to the future, following a successful 2015/16 season which ended with the company achieving a $44,000 surplus.
The Orlando Ballet Social will be one of the first opportunities to meet Caroline Miller, the new Executive Director of the Orlando Ballet along with Artistic Director, Robert Hill. Caroline arrived less a month ago from London to work with Robert and the company.
Guests will be welcomed by staff and students at an informal reception with the chance to watch the dancers warming up. Robert Hill will give a short presentation revealing what audiences can expect from the company’s forthcoming shows including Dracula (October 28 – 30, 2016), Nutcracker (December 8-11, 2016), Modern Masters (March 24-26, 2017) and A Cinderella Story (May 5-7, 2017), with the dancers performing short rehearsal pieces. Dierdre Miles Burger, Principal of the renowned Orlando Ballet School will talk about the organization’s outreach with local schools and hospitals, ending with some of the Academy students dancing.
The evening will close with refreshments, generously provided by City Beverages, and the opportunity for guests to meet the dancers, teachers, Artistic team, staff, and Orlando Ballet Board members. The Orlando Ballet Social offers a rare opportunity to watch professional dancers performing in a rehearsal setting and will also demystify ballet for new audience members. This event is FREE. Children are welcome.
