The American Ballet Theatre® National Training Curriculum Student Examinations are a graded examination system based on sound ballet principles, incorporating elements of the French, Italian & Russian schools of training.
Every year, our students in specific levels participate in ABT exams and level participation may vary each year.
These exams are presented in the form of a class that has been prepared by your students’ instructor throughout the year. Students have been memorizing their classes and preparing throughout the year for this exam.
These examinations are used as a benchmark to assess students’ skill level and artistic presentation and are also used as a tool to document progress and to build confidence in their ability. To prepare for exams, students are expected throughout the year to regularly attend their ballet classes, adhere to the rigor and ritual required, commit to learning and memorizing the work presented by their ABT NTC Certified Teacher, and demonstrate a joy in dancing and artistic presentation.
Students will either be assessed by a member of the ABT National Training Curriculum Artistic Board of Examiners, or by the Orlando Ballet School Head of Certifications. Examinations occur in the spring, typically in March or April for participating students. Participating students will receive their ABT Examination results in lieu of their year-end evaluation.
