Orlando Ballet and Orlando Ballet School have a series of auditions, workshops, and masterclasses throughout the year. Below is information regarding programming, dates, times and registration. Musical Theatre Jazz and Tap Workshop for High School Actors

Elevate your performance skills with our Musical Theatre Jazz and Tap Workshop for High School Actors.  This dynamic course combines the rhythmic precision of tap dancing with the expressive flair of musical theatre jazz, offering a comprehensive training experience that enhances your stage presence and versatility.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Tap Fundamentals:Master the basic steps, rhythm patterns, and techniques of tap dancing.  Develop a keen sense of timing and coordination that will add a unique rhythm to your acting performances.
  • Musical Theatre Jazz Techniques:Explore the essential movements and styles of jazz dance, including isolations, extensions, and energetic combinations. Learn how to incorporate these elements to express character emotions and narrative through dance.
  • Physical Conditioning:Improve your flexibility, strength, and overall fitness with exercises designed to support both dance and acting.

Instructor: Amyia Burrell

Amyia Burrell is a proud Actors Equity Association member who most recently performed in the National Broadway Tour of Disney’s The Lion King. Burrell has trained with dance legends such as Tina Landon, Lula Washington, Debbie Allen, Milton Myers, Lady Leah Lafargue, Diane Maroney-Grigsby, Gus Giordano, Abdel Salaam, Petrus Bosman, Birute Barodicate, Garth Fagan, Ana Marie Forsythe and many more.
After spending over a decade with The Lion King National Tour Burrell settled in Orlando, FL, and began teaching dance and performing arts. Burrell is extremely proud to serve as the Head of the Young Dancer Division at Orlando Ballet School. She also teaches Musical Theatre, Voice, and Dance at The Dr. Phillips Center School of the Arts and guest teaches at many other schools and studios. She has served as an instructor/adjudicator for Orange County Public Schools All County Dance, Florida Dance Education Organization, and Dr. Phillips High School. Burrell choreographed the closing group number for the 2019 Applause Awards and served as an instructor for Disney Musicals in Schools 2018-2020.
Burrell holds a certificate in Artist Management from Berklee College of Music. Her greatest joys come from being surrounded by her loving family and dogs and passing along the joy of performing arts to students all over the world.

Master Class Series: Ballet with Chris Alloways-Ramsey

Orlando Ballet School’s Master Class Series provides the opportunity for students to hone their technique and learn from accomplished faculty and instructors. Students will also be able to engage with instructors during the open question and answer session at the end of class.

Open to ages 8-11 with current ballet experience and Orlando Ballet Students in Levels 1A-2B.

Instructor: Chris Alloways-Ramsey, Director of Education

Christopher Alloways-Ramsey is the Director of Education for Orlando ballet. Prior to his current position, Alloways-Ramsey served as an Assistant Professor of Dance at the University of Utah and the acting Recruitment Director for its Ballet Program. Christopher completed his MFA in Choreography at Jacksonville University in 2019 and graduated cum laude from Harvard University, Alberta, in June 2003. Christopher danced professionally for Boston Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet, Ballet West, BalletMet, and Alabama Ballet, dancing a wide range of roles from the international classical repertoire to the works of independent contemporary choreographers. Christopher received most of his classical training from Mira Popovich and Dame Sonia Arova.

As an educator, Christopher has been on faculty at the University of Utah, the American Academy of Ballet, Boston Arts Academy, Boston Ballet, Boston Conservatory, and The Florida Ballet Conservatory. His former students are currently employed worldwide in ballet, modern, contemporary, and Broadway companies. Christopher was a 2013 recipient of the Surdna National Artists Teacher Fellowship Award. In 2014-2016, Christopher worked in Cape Town, South Africa, as a Ballet Master for Cape Dance Company and Head of the Classical Ballet Department at Cape Academy of Performing Arts. In addition, Christopher has been a guest instructor and repetiteur, staging classical works and teaching internationally and across the United States.

As a coach and principal stager for competitions, Christopher has mentored dancers awarded medals in the South African International Ballet Competition, YAGP Paris, Puerto Rico Classical Dance Competition, and The American Ballet Competition.

Master Class Series: Ballet with Giovanni Villalobos

Orlando Ballet School’s Master Class Series provides the opportunity for students to hone their technique and learn from accomplished faculty and instructors. Students will also be able to engage with instructors during the open question and answer session at the end of class.

Instructor: Giovanni Villalobos

Giovanni Villalobos was born in Puerto Rico, where he began dancing at the age of eight under the guide of Roberto Rodriguez. He studied at the School of American Ballet with Peter Boal, Jock Soto and Andrei Kramarevsky and the Royal Danish Ballet as part of the D.A.N.C.E student exchange program. He has choreographed for the New York Choreographic Institute. In 2003, he was awarded the Mae L. Wien Award for Outstanding Promise, and a year later he joined New York City Ballet. He has worked with prominent choreographers, including Christopher Wheeldon, Susan Stroman, Eliot Feld, Benjamin Millepied, Alexei Ratmansky, and he appeared in the film version of Jerome Robbins’ Opus Jazz. In 2014, he was chosen to become a member of the Teachers Fellowship at SAB. Mr. Villalobos was a guest teacher at Pacific Northwest Ballet School in 2015, and joined PNB School as a year-round faculty member in the fall of 2018. In June 2019, he became a rehearsal director for Pacific Northwest Ballet where he continued to serve until the summer of 2024. After 20 years of traveling the world, he has chosen to make Orlando his home and is excited to share his experience with the local dance community.
