Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra to Supply Live Music for Don Quixote February 25, 2016 |

The Orlando Ballet announced today that live music will be provided by the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra for the upcoming performances of Don Quixote. The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra will be conducted by Kansas City Ballet Music Director, Ramona Pansegrau, who is widely considered to be one of the best ballet pianists and conductors in the world.

“The dancers of the Orlando Ballet Company are extremely excited about the addition of live music for our performances of this iconic production,” said Orlando Ballet Artistic Director Robert Hill. “The accompaniment of live music provided by the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra creates a greater emotional connection between the audience and the story.”

From March 18-20, the Orlando Ballet will perform the scenic production of Don Quixote which was originally created for the American Ballet Theatre (ABT) in New York City. The addition of live music to this Don Quixote production enhances the multi-sensory experience and complements the Orlando Ballet’s use of ABT’s original sets, costumes, music score and choreography. Susan Jones, one of ABT’s Ballet Masters, has been working with the Orlando Ballet to choreograph and stage this production. The staging is based on the 1869 and 1900 variations by Marius Petipa and Alexander Gorsky, respectively. The costumes that will be used have been worn by the likes of famous dancers, such as Misty Copeland, Paloma Herrera and Angel Corella. Adiarys Almeida will be a featured guest artist dancing the role of Kitri, partnered with Orlando Ballet’s own principal dancer Arcadian Broad.  Almeida, a Cuban-born dancer, enchanted audiences with her lead performance in the fall production of Giselle. Orlando Ballet’s Chiaki Yasukawa and Andras Ronai will play the lead roles of Kitri and Basilio in the alternate cast on Saturday night.

The various elements of this production, including the partnership with the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, were made possible through the generosity of various sponsors including: Ford W. Kiene Family & City Beverages, Florida Blue, Universal Orlando Resort and the Orlando Utilities Commission.

The Orlando Ballet will perform Don Quixote on March 18-19 at 8 p.m. and on March 20 at 2 p.m. at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. To purchase tickets go to
