SUMMER INTENSIVE HOUSING INFORMATION

Where will housing be located?

Housing is located at Rollins College, which is only 10 minutes away from Harriett’s Orlando Ballet Centre! Rollins College is located at 1000 Holt Ave, Winter Park, FL, 32789

What do the dorms look like?

We have been assigned to the following dorms for the entirety of our Summer Intensive Programs:

Strong Hall 219/220/221

  • Location: Corner of French Avenue and Holt Avenue
  • Room Types: doubles and singles
  • Building Features: Suite-style bathrooms, elevator, lounge, and kitchen
  • Furnishings: Extra-long twin bed, closet, dresser, desk, desk chair, and window blinds. No bedding/decorations are included.

How old do housing students have to be?

Housing is available to all students who decide to attend our 2, 3, and 5-Week Summer Intensive programs!

We understand that several of our students attending the Summer Intensive will be 18 years or older. If a student decides to board at Rollins College for the duration of the Summer Intensive, they will be held to all rules and regulations put in place by the OBS staff and appointed RA’s regardless of age.

Will housing students be supervised?

Yes, all housing students will be assigned a Resident Assistant. There will be one RA for every ten students. All Resident Assistants will report to a Dorm Supervisor who will be on campus each night the students are in the dorms.

Will I be able to request a roommate?

Yes, during registration you will have the ability to request a roommate for the Summer Intensive. Please note that we will do our best to accommodate all requests, but there is no guarantee.

Do you have to be vaccinated to live in the dorms?

No, students do not need to be vaccinated in order to live in the dorms or attend our summer intensive program.

Are meals included?

Yes, boarding students will receive breakfast and dinner at the dining hall on Rollins campus. A boxed lunch will be provided by the dining hall to take to Orlando Ballet for lunchtime. There will be select days where lunch and dinner will not be provided due to an optional off campus activity. Students will be made aware of days when these meals will not be available, and they will have to make other arrangements.

What if I have a food allergy?

If you have a food allergy, you will be able to let us know through your Jackrabbit registration. We will work directly with the dining hall to accommodate any food allergies you may have.

Will there be field trips?

Yes, there will be scheduled field trips for Saturday evenings as well as on Sunday’s. Trips range from a trip to Icon Park to visiting Disney World and Universal.

Can I bring my car?

Summer Intensive students driving by themselves to Orlando may keep their vehicles on campus during the program. The student’s car keys must be turned into the Dorm Supervisor upon check-in and they will return them to the student upon check-out. Resident Assistants may also have vehicles on campus. RAs are permitted to use their vehicles during the program for OBS Summer Intensive related travel. However, all students who bring a vehicle are not permitted to transport other students in their vehicle for any reason. Parking passes must be arranged in advance and can be purchased through your registration.

Resident Assistant FAQs

How old do I have to be?

RAs for the 2023 Summer Program must have turned 18 by January 1, 2023.

Is this a paid position?

No. All RAs receive full tuition and room and board in exchange for their services.

Will I be able to participate fully in classes and performances?

Yes. RAs are required to audition and be accepted into the program, unless they are a current OBS student or are a returning 2022 student. As an accepted student, RAs are expected to participate in both classes and performances. There may be days, however, that you will need to remain at the dorm with an ill student, escort a student to the doctor, or perform some other duty that will prevent you from attending class.

What are the dates of the program?

The 2-Week and Men’s Summer Intensive are from June 12 – June 23, 2023. The 3-Week Summer Intensive is from June 26 – July 14, 2023. The 5-Week Summer Intensive is from June 26, 2022 – July 28, 2022. RAs must commit to attending the entirety of the program for which they are hired.

When do I need to arrive?

RAs should plan to arrive on the Saturday before the start of their assigned program to allow plenty of time to get settled and attend orientation. This allows RAs enough time to prepare for student arrival on Sunday afternoon.

Do I need to stay until all students have checked out at the end of the program?

It is preferred that RAs stay until all students have departed the dorm, and therefore should not schedule their return flight to depart from Orlando before 2:00PM on the Saturday following the end of each intensive.

How many RAs will be hired?

The number of RAs hired will depend on the number of housing students enrolled in the OBS Summer Program. We strive for a student to RA ratio of 10:1.

Do I need to be First Aid and/or CPR Certified?

No, but it is preferred.

Will I have time off?

The RAs will be given a rotating schedule to provide at least one evening off each week.

Can I bring my own car?

Yes. RAs may have their own car on campus and will be required to purchase a parking permit as required by the campus. RAs may not, however, transport students under any circumstances.

Will I have a private room?

Yes, we will make every effort for each RA to have their own room. However, RAs may be required to share a bathroom with another RA. The accommodations at Rollins College are set up with at least one student per room with a shared bathroom between rooms.
