OBS Student Jeffrey Cirio Honored With Princess Grace Award
A recent graduate of Orlando Ballet School, Jeffrey Cirio has recently been honored with the prestigious Princess Grace Award.
The Princess Grace Foundation and Princess Grace Award were both named after and created in memory of Princess Grace of Monaco. During her lifetime, Princess Grace was committed to helping emerging artists of all kinds achieve their career goals. As a result, the foundation works in conjunction with performing arts schools and non-profit companies throughout the country to recognize the talents of individual artists in theater, dance and film. Since 1984,the foundation has awarded close to $5 million to nearly 500 emerging artists throughout the United States.
Cirio is the newest rising star trained at OBS. This summer, he won the Gold Medal at the prestigious Helsinki International Ballet competition followed by the Silver Medal at the International Dance Competition. He has also won the Grand Prix at the New York finals of Youth America Grand Prix; the Bronze Medal at the Jackson, MS International Ballet Competition; the Junior Gold Medal at the New York finals of Youth America Grand Prix; Best Male at the American Ballet Competition, and the Gold Medal at the Tanz Olymp International Dance Competition in Berlin, Germany. He began his training at the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet at age nine and went on to a second company position at Boston Ballet.
Cirio has accepted a full company contract with Boston Ballet starting later this month and joins a number of male graduates who have moved on to prestigious professional opportunities after training under noted OBS director Peter Stark. Other male dancers who have trained with OBS and moved onto successful dance careers include Lloyd Riggins, principal dancer Hamburg Ballet; Joseph Gatti, principal dancer National Ballet of Spain and Joseph Gorak with American Ballet Theatre.
"It is remarkable that our team is training dancers who are widely considered among the best in the world. We are extremely proud of Jeffery and look forward to seeing him embark upon his dance career," said Stark.
Orlando Ballet School Student Shows America He’s Got Talent!
Arcadian Broad, Orlando Ballet School (OBS) student, was selected to appear on the hit NBC reality show, America’s Got Talent. Broad wowed the judges, performing a dance routine which had the audience cheering, screaming and applauding from beginning to end. The judges praised him for his “magnificent talent” and “natural God- given gift” and unanimously decided to send him to Las Vegas to compete against other contestants for the one million dollar prize.
Orlando Ballet School Student Takes Gold at International Ballet Competition
Orlando Ballet School (OBS) student Jeffery Cirio won the gold medal in the sixth annual Helsinki International Ballet Competition (HIBC) held in Helsinki, Finland. This prestigious international competition is known as the Olympics of the ballet industry, bringing together 100 of the world’s top dancers, ages 15 – 25, for an intense nine-day competition. Cirio began his training at age nine and trained at the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet as well as Boston ballet before coming to Orlando. He left a pre-professional position in Boston to study under OBS Director Peter Stark. Three other OBS students: Christopher Revels, Katherine Revels and Juliana Richards also competed in the competition. Katherine Revels was a semi finalist. Orlando Ballet main company dancer Sara Nyfield was also selected to compete in the seniors division. |
