Orlando Ballet Announces 2017-18 Season May 6, 2017 |

Orlando Ballet announces 2017-18 season including a collaboration with singer Sisaundra Lewis and a new Orlando Ballet Family Weekend.

Orlando Ballet has announced its 2017-2018 season at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts with an exciting mix of classic masterpieces and bold, contemporary ballets, including two world premieres, one of which is a collaboration between Orlando Ballet’s Artistic Director Robert Hill and Central Florida’s own beloved vocalist Sisaundra Lewis. Tickets will go on sale to subscribers on June 19, and soon after to the general public.

Orlando Ballet is launching a new Family Weekend on March 17 and 18, 2018 giving families affordable access to see Arcadian Broad’s hit ballet Beauty and the Beast on the main stage at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, for as little as $40 for a family for four.

 

SEASON 2017/18

The season opens on October 27, 2017 with Swan Lake, set to the powerful Tchaikovsky score. Audiences can enjoy Orlando Ballet’s classic The Nutcracker in the week before Christmas with the show running December 21-24, including a Christmas Eve show at 1pm to help families to kick off their celebrations.

To celebrate Valentine’s romance, Orlando Ballet is performing Romeo and Juliet, February 9-11, 2018 at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts and hosting a masked lovers’ ball as its signature fundraising event for the year.

The season closes with a program of modern ballets, titled Contemporary Wonders from May 4-6, 2018. The evening includes two world premieres: a new work by Orlando Ballet’s wunderkind Arcadian Broad which is an original story inspired by the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland, alongside a new collaboration between Orlando Ballet’s Artistic Director Robert Hill and the singer Sisaundra Lewis. Sisaundra Lewis is well known internationally, having risen to stardom and gaining global recognition after delivering show stopping, electrifying performances on NBC’s ‘The Voice!’

 

2017/18 season tickets will go on sale to subscribers on June 19, and soon after to the general public. The public can register their early interest in buying tickets between May 5 and 7 and be entered into a prize drawing to win free valet parking for the entire 2017-18 season. This quintessential love story is brought back to life in Robert Hill’s brilliantly imagined adaptation. Set to Prokofiev’s rich score, this beloved ballet will be an unforgettable marriage of dance and drama.

Arcadian Broad’s Beauty & the Beast is the tale of loving inner beauty with artistic choreography that shares the story with the audience. From the Beast’s imposing castle to the enchanted forest, it vividly illustrates the transformative power of love through striking set design, inventive choreography and a cast of fanciful characters. Original music composed by Arcadian Broad.

Contemporary Wonders  |  May 4-6, 2018  |  Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts
Contemporary Wonders will feature two world premieres. Artistic Director Robert Hill and vocalist Sisaundra Lewis will create a spellbinding work rooted in the joy and positive energy of the healing power of love. Following the success of Beauty and the Beast, Arcadian Broad will once again compose and choreograph a hypnotic telling of the Alice in Wonderland story, as seen through the eyes of the Mad Hatter.

SPECIAL PERFORMANCES

Orlando Ballet is also expanding its partnership with the Garden Theater in Winter Garden and will be performing an Uncorked performance on November 3, followed by performances of the family ballet The Swan Princess on November 4 and 5. Building on the success of Orlando Ballet’s Tribute to Harriett: Best of Broadway at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts last February, the Company will take a bespoke version of the show, Best of Broadway to the Garden Theater, April 13-15, 2018.
