Box Office Manager

Orlando Ballet, a not-for-profit organization, seeks a full-time Box Office Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of the box office for all Orlando Ballet and Orlando Ballet School ticketed events. This individual works to maximize ticket sales, increase and maintain customer loyalty, perform financial reporting functions, as well as monitor and track data. The Box Office Manager must be able to think strategically, be proactive and assertive, and manage staff and volunteers through effective leadership and clear communications.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Maintain regular Box Office hours (presently 10am-6pm Monday-Friday) to process phone, mail and walk-up ticket orders, including single ticket sales, subscription and group orders and ticket exchanges.
  • Staffs box office, including part-time seasonal help and volunteers, while staying within a strict budget both at the primary box office and performance venue
  • Trains Box Office staff and volunteers on appropriate procedures, software, credit card processing, handling difficult situations with customers, etc.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with key strategic partners for group sales promotions
  • Oversees all aspects of ticketing including subscription, single ticket and group sales, complimentary tickets, gift certificates, etc.
  • Works directly with TicketMaster to set up all events (single, subscription, parking, and other as requested) and discounts
  • Creatively assesses ticketing needs with a focus on accurate reporting of patron data; recommends, selects, and helps locate appropriate solutions based on customer needs and desires
  • Produces accurate daily sales reports and reconciles with the Finance Department
  • Manages box office ticketing and phone systems
  • Maintains knowledge of current sales and promotions, policies regarding payment and exchanges, and security practices
  • Establishes ticketing and event control procedures to minimize risk to the organization
  • Runs the box office with a high degree of customer service orientation so as to maintain excellent customer relations with patrons.
  • Maintain clear communication for patrons and the public including updating phone messages, signage within building and website information.
  • Open the Box Office two hours prior to all mainstage performances. Duties on performance dates include; printing will-call tickets, and processing all phone and walk-up orders. The Box Office will remain open until purchased tickets have been distributed or until the conclusion of the first intermission.
  • Assist with marketing and promotional efforts and other duties as required.

  • Demonstrate an ability to work with volunteers, enlisting additional volunteers to assist during performances and as needed.
  • Demonstrate impeccable skills in working with the public, include positive attitude, flexibility, and the ability to listen to concerns and resolve problems.

 Essential skills and experience:

  • 3 + years related experience in ticketing, preferably working with a TicketMaster system, is required
  • 1 + year of Box office managerial experience is preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite of products, including Excel, Word, and Outlook is required
  • Previous customer service experience is required
  • Willingness to work irregular and flexible hours, including evenings and weekends is required
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent active listening skills and speech clarity is required
  • Appreciation of the arts and dance is required
