OrlandoBallet Brings Passion and Drama to the 2011- 2012 Season
From supernatural fantasy to romantic tragedy; vampires to swans, this year’s season explores a full spectrum of emotion
Orlando, Fla.–The upcoming season of the Orlando Ballet will do nothing less than charm audiences with its repertoire which reflects classical dance with a contemporary twist. The Company is sure to provide an entertaining season with performances including: Vampire’s Ball, Battle of the Sexes III and Swans: Black and White. TheOrlando community can enjoy performances byCentral Florida’s award-winning ballet company with tickets starting at $15.
Just in time forHalloween, nightmares of the night come to life with Vampire’s Ball (October 21-23). This haunting performance, which brings out vampires and other creatures that go bump in the night, features alloriginal choreography by Artistic Director Robert Hill. This hair-raising performance will leave audiences gripping their seats and glamoured into wanting more.
Battle of the Sexes III (February 10-12), the third and final installment of this provocative series, blends thrilling beats and powerful choreography, as men and women of the company face off to showcase Orlando Ballet’s edgier side. With even more edgy choreography by Hill, this fierce production has got plenty of attitude.
The season closes with Swans: Black and White (March 30- April 1) based on the timeless and romantic tale of Swan Lake. The company puts a new spin on this drama’s struggle of beauty and betrayal. The onstage performance conveys everything from passion and romance to deception and vengeance, making it a brilliant way to wrap up an exciting season.
In addition to the three season performances, Orlando Ballet presents The Nutcracker (December 15-18), a holiday favorite of the young and the young at heart.
This year’s Orlando Ballet Family Series, featuring abbreviated performances forchildren and families, includes: The Sleeping Beauty (October 22), The Nutcracker (December 17 & 18) and The Swan Princess (March 31). Tickets range from $22 to $30.
Since joining the Orlando Ballet, Hill has sought to continue to his mission to make ballet relevant to the world as we know it today; bringing a new dimension to the world of dance that can be appreciated by all ages and audiences.
